The Value of a Master of Theology (Th.M.)

For many pastors and scholars, the Master of Divinity provides a necessary foundation, yet it often leaves the most profound theological questions resolved only in survey. The Master of Theology (Th.M.) at New Geneva Theological Seminary is designed to bridge the gap between a standard professional degree and the highest levels of academic scholarship. This is a post-M.Div. degree for those who desire to sharpen their competence in biblical exegesis and systematic theology beyond the generalist level.

Why Choose New Geneva?

In an era of theological drift, New Geneva stands unashamedly on the historical truths of Scripture. We are not a broad evangelical institution; we are a confessional Reformed theological seminary. Our curriculum is rooted in confessions like the Westminster Standards, ensuring that your advanced study is not just academic, but rigorously orthodox.

As you will see, our Th.M. program emphasizes a mentorship model where students engage in spirited, seminar-style debate with experienced faculty and pastors. This approach mirrors the classical method of theology, prioritizing depth of thought over mere information retention.

Program Focus and Outcomes

The New Geneva Th.M. is ideal for two distinct types of students:

  1. The Pastor-Scholar: For the teaching elder who desires to bring greater weight and precision to his pulpit ministry. By refining your skills in the original languages and historical theology, you equip yourself to handle the Word of God with greater accuracy and power.

  2. The Future Academic: For the student preparing for a Ph.D. program. A robust Th.M. thesis demonstrates your ability to conduct original research and contributes a credible writing sample for doctoral applications.

A Commitment to Confessional Integrity

Our program does not shy away from the difficult questions of apologetics and dogmatics. We operate with the conviction that true scholarship serves the Church. Whether you are looking to master the nuances of Covenant Theology or engage in advanced polemics, the New Geneva Th.M. offers the rigorous, confessional environment necessary to steel your mind for the battles of the modern age.
