M.Div · Master’s

New Geneva’s Master of Divinity is our flagship vocational degree — a comprehensive, professional program designed to equip individuals for both the pastorate and other gospel ministries. Across 100 credit hours you will build a thorough foundation in Scripture, systematic and historical theology, and the original biblical languages of Hebrew and Greek. It is the standard preparation for ordained ministry, pairing rigorous academic study with practical formation in preaching, pastoral care, counseling, and the leadership of Christ’s church.

Master of Theology

Advanced Scholarship
Th.M · Master’s

The Master of Theology advances students beyond the M.Div., deepening their comprehension of Scripture and sharpening the exegetical skills required for teaching and scholarship. This focused, research-driven program consists of five graduate seminars and a defended research thesis, with reading proficiency in a research language. It is ideal for those preparing to teach, to pursue doctoral studies, or to serve the church with refined theological precision and depth.

Master of Arts in Christian Ministry

For Lay Leaders
MACM · Master’s

The Master of Arts in Christian Ministry is a rigorous program designed to equip non-ordained lay leaders for faithful service and robust biblical teaching. Without the full ordination track of the M.Div., it still provides a serious theological foundation for elders, deacons, teachers, missionaries, and dedicated ministry volunteers. Students grow in their grasp of Scripture and doctrine while developing the practical competence to lead and teach with confidence in their local congregations.

Doctor of Ministry

For Current Pastors
D.Min · Doctoral

Our affordable Doctor of Ministry is an advanced professional degree designed to enhance the knowledge and sharpen the skills of actively serving pastors. As a terminal degree, it deepens competence through eight doctoral core courses and a culminating dissertation project, with guided reflection on real pastoral practice. It is built for those already in the field who long to grow as thoughtful, effective shepherds, with their own ministry context as the laboratory for the work.

Certificate of Biblical Studies

Cert · Certificate

The Certificate of Biblical Studies provides foundational, theological training for believers seeking to deepen their faith, prepare for missions, or explore seminary coursework. It offers an accessible on-ramp to serious study, covering the core of biblical and theological knowledge without the commitment of a full degree program. Many students use it to satisfy mission-agency requirements, strengthen their teaching in the local church, or test a call to ministry before pursuing a master’s degree. It is also a meaningful path for personal spiritual growth and lifelong discipleship.

Additional Program Details

Laity and Leadership Degrees (MACM)

The Master of Arts in Christian Ministry (MACM) and the Certificate programs are built for ruling elders, deacons, missionaries, and teachers. These tracks equip you with a foundation for ministry, ensuring that those serving in the boardroom or on the mission field are as grounded as those in the pulpit.

Pastoral Degrees (M.Div, D.Min)

The Master of Divinity (M.Div.) and Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) form the backbone of our curriculum. These degrees provide the rigorous training in biblical languages, homiletics, and pastoral care for those in ministry.

Academic Degrees (Th.M)

The Master of Theology (Th.M.) is designed for the student who desires to go further. As a post-graduate degree, it allows for specialized research in historical or systematic theology.

Frequently Asked Questions

Choose by ordination goal and credit load. The M.Div. (100 credit hours) is the pastoral degree for those preparing for ordination; the MACM (48 credit hours) serves ruling elders, deacons, missionaries, and church leaders who want rigorous theological grounding without full pastoral ordination preparation; and the Certificate in Biblical Studies (26 credit hours) is the entry point for those still discerning a call. The Th.M. (30 credit hours) and D.Min. (30 credit hours) both require an M.Div. or its equivalent — the Th.M. for advanced research, the D.Min. for ordained pastors and experienced ministry leaders with three years of active ministry experience. Credits earned in the MACM or the Certificate transfer fully toward the M.Div. if you later pursue ordination.

The Master of Divinity, Master of Theology, Master of Arts in Christian Ministry, and Certificate in Biblical Studies are all completed online, without relocating. A standard Master of Divinity typically takes 3 to 4 years of dedicated study, and the MACM is designed to be completed in about two years. For the Doctor of Ministry, which is built for pastors already serving, contact the registrar about schedule and format.

The Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms shape the course structure, not just the doctrinal statement. Every M.Div. student takes ST 501 Introduction to Reformed Theology plus the six-course systematic sequence ST 502 to ST 507, moving from Revelation and Inspiration through God, Man, the Person and Work of Christ, the Person and Work of the Holy Spirit, and Church and Last Things — Systematic & Historical Theology accounts for 24 of the M.Div.'s 100 credit hours. Another 42 credit hours are Old and New Testament study including Hebrew and Greek, so the confession is tested against the original-language text rather than assumed. Students also read outside the tradition in ST 508 Comparative Evangelical Theologies, and New Geneva trains students from the PCA, OPC, RCUS, URCNA, and other confessional Reformed and evangelical bodies, including independent and Baptist congregations.

New Geneva charges $300 per credit hour for all Master's-level programs. Total degree costs: M.Div. (100 credit hours) $30,000; MACM (48 credit hours) $14,400; Th.M. (30 credit hours) $9,000; D.Min. (30 credit hours) $9,000; Certificate in Biblical Studies (26 credit hours) $7,800. A senior discount of $265 per credit hour applies for students aged 55 and older.

Two things stand behind a New Geneva degree: New Geneva is an affiliate member of the Association of Reformed Theological Seminaries (ARTS) and is authorized by the Colorado Department of Higher Education under the Degree Authorization Act as a religious institution. Acceptance of any degree for ordination is determined by the student’s local church court — presbytery, classis, or session — so confirm your court’s requirements before enrolling. New Geneva’s 100-credit M.Div. is built to meet standard ordination requirements for Teaching Elders in Reformed and evangelical denominations, including Hebrew, Greek, and the ST 502 to ST 507 systematic theology sequence. For continued study, New Geneva’s own 30-credit-hour Th.M. requires an M.Div. or its equivalent including Hebrew and Greek, plus a minimum 3.1 cumulative GPA.

New Geneva accepts applications year-round, but every term carries a registration deadline. For Fall 2026 that deadline is August 17, and classes begin August 31. The full 2026–2027 academic calendar, including the Winter, Spring and Summer terms, is published on the admissions page.

New Geneva intentionally keeps tuition at $300 per credit hour - well below the cost of traditional residential seminaries - as its primary method of financial assistance. Institutional scholarships are evaluated case-by-case, prioritizing students with demonstrable financial need or unique ministry contexts. Local churches and sessions are strongly encouraged to partner with prospective leaders to help subsidize their training. Scholarship applications become available upon admission.

The Master of Divinity (M.Div., 100 credit hours) is New Geneva's flagship degree and the standard credential for ordination in Reformed and evangelical denominations. It includes comprehensive training in biblical Hebrew, biblical Greek, systematic theology, church history, homiletics, and pastoral ministry. The Master of Arts in Christian Ministry (MACM, 48 credit hours) is designed for ruling elders, deacons, missionaries, and church leaders who need rigorous theological grounding without full pastoral ordination preparation. Credits earned in the MACM transfer fully toward the M.Div. if a student later pursues ordination.
